LONDON — Doritos Roulette chips, which are 10 times hotter than a Jalapeño pepper, are so fiery that one British teenager thought she was going to die after she ate a packet.

The 14-year-old's frightening experience prompted her school in Scarborough to issue a warning through its newsletter to students telling them to avoid the snacks, saying they can cause 'severe distress.'

Almost all the tortilla chips in a Doritos Roulette packet are the regular tangy cheese flavour but one in six is coated with an invisible fiery spice. They are what a company executive called 'melt your face' hot earlier this year, according to AdAge.

The Sun reports that the student, Beth Laybourn, who has asthma, feared she was 'going to die' when eating the snack with friends.

“At first it wasn’t that hot,' she told the paper. “We carried on going round and I started sweating and a moment later I felt my throat burning ... I kept thinking that if it leads to a full-blown asthma attack I could die.'

Speaking to The Sun, Doritos said in a statement that the snack is not suitable for young children.

“We do warn people to expect a seriously spicy experience with Doritos Roulette and we make this clear on the pack and in our adverts.'
